!!!!!!!!!!

OMG. LET’S DISCUSS.

First things first: a nifty bullet list of important things that happened:
• Nate and Serena
• New douchelord, Damien
• Jenny and Damien’s little hobby
• Chuck’s long-lost mother?!
• Lily and Rufus’ marriage probs
• Blair is annoying

Looking back at the message boards from during the break, it seems people were all wanting Nate and Serna to hook up (again) and they certainly did (over and over and over again). Way to take it slow, guys.

This new twist that Chuck might not have lost his mother in childbirth is quite a development. Why would Bart lie about this? Did he need to make an excuse to resent his only son? All we know is that she was at his grave and has a locket (“the hurt locket”-nice allusion to the Oscar winner!)We’ll have to wait to find out more about Elizabeth Fisher.

We finally have some more deets about the letter to Serena from her dad. After Rufus comes back from skiing (by himself??) and confronts Lily by asking her pointblank- “Did you sleep with your ex-husband?” “No, it was just a kiss.” Ok, case closed, ::phew:: and here I thought Lily had cheated on her husband. (-_-)

I used to love Blair, but now I think she’s just settled into the role of Chuck’s sappy puppy-eyed girlfriend. Stop being all lovey- dovey and go slap a hoe! I’d rather see B cut a bitch than fawn all over Chuck, but that’s just me.

So, what exactly did fans receive from this episode? Disappointment, relief, a quick fix?

Another media reinventment: product placement.
Consumerism has reached a newer level in the past few years by placing their products in TV shows and movies. Sometimes subtly, other times in a scripted, unnatural way to mention it, most humorously so is Pepsi in Austin Powers.
While this has been going on for quite a while, I think Gossip Girl has truly integrated this concept even more through Verizon Wireless. The characters all clearly have Verizon phones. Since the actual Gossip Girl in the show uses text messages to send out the newest gossip, cell phones play a considerable part in the show.
Also, Verizon has an app service that sends you texts and pictures from the show, so you can live like the Upper East Siders. This connection between Tv and Mobile for a show is quite innovative and sets Gossip Girl apart from other TV shows.

Is Content Still King?

I recently wrote a paper on another blog article entitled "Is content still king?" It is a very good question. Let's discuss it! We'll start with pointless blogs.
Some people blog because they have something to say. Others because it is a hobby and think it's fun to ramble about their day. Yet others blog because they are forced to as an assignment. ha. While I had picked a subject that I found interesting(my fave tv show, of course) I ran out of steam/ideas after about the second post. So here I am, left to fill space in the blogosphere for a couple more weeks with nothing to write about or say in order to get credit for some words. In this blog, grades are king, while content is something I scramble for once a week. While I know this is not the only content-less blog out there, I am not exactly proud to be adding to that percentage.
This is my first blog because I have never cared to have a blog. I am too lazy to even update my facebook status. When I do, it's just some silly little statement that was meant for a giggle. I don't have a twitter page (OMG, I know) because I don't care about telling people what I'm doing right now. I also know other people don't care about what I'm doing right now, either.
In short, I know that this post and this blog in general, is pointless. The paper I wrote is probably pointless, too. But, I will post on, for the purpose of some credit in this class. u

Still on Break.

Avid watchers of Gossip Girl (i.e. ME!!) cannot wait for March 8. What happens on March 8? The return of new episodes of Gossip Girl, of course! We've been Blair-deprived for far too long and enough is starting to become enough already. Our weekly dosage of the Upper East Side has been on a prolonged break since "The Debarted." What will happen with Trip and Serena? Serena and Nate? Lily van der Woodsen and the mysterious letter from Serena's dad?? So many questions, so much time left to sit and stew about it. The Serena/Nate situation seems bound to happen soon, with some spoiler alert rumors of little Little J triangle-action happening all over the blogs. Speaking of Little J, when will Taylor Momsen realize that "surly 15 yr old raccoon" is not a good look for her? Oh well. Until the show's return, I think we're finding ourselves looking to celeb sightings of our favorite characters in the real world. Perehilton.com saves lives. Celeb-obsessed, tv show-raving lives, yes, but lives nonetheless! Check back here for more Gossip Girl media to come!

Do Media Revolutions Work?

Do media revolutions work, or do people lose interest as something keeps showing up in more and more media mediums?

Let's take an example, say, I don't know, GOSSIP GIRL. This series can be found in print, on TV, heard about on the radio and, of course, plastered all over the Internets. This surely gives the enterprise more attention and exposure, but is it good attention? Is this an example of less is more, or does it cause people to get more hyped up about the show? Do people switch the channel at the mere mention of Blair or Serena, or does it perk their interest?

GG has unfortunately been on a break since December, and new episodes will not air until March 8. Is this hiatus a strategically planned marketing ploy to create suspense for its return? Is it working?
Or will watchers say "fuggehdaboutit" and move on to Melrose Place instead?
Is the audience fizzling or sizzling??

Intro

Miss Media here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of "Gossip Girl" and new media. Is Gossip Girl just a television show, or an example of a media transformation? This blog is going to find out.
GG began as a book series by Stephanie Savage, and was then scripted into a TV series by the CW network. From there, its popularity has transformed the show into a multimedia sensation, launching websites, fashion trends, fan clubs, and of course, blogs.
Many of these blogs serve as a community forum for GG watchers and opinionators. Allowing watchers of the show to interact with each other and share comments and criticisms allow viewers to become involved with the show in a whole new way.
So, is this new level of participation really beneficial or not? How do spoiler sites affect the show? They certainly defeat the purpose of cliffhangers and unexpected plot twists. Do regular watchers of the show read these spoilers? If so, does it ruin the surprise or add to the anticipation of the week's episode?
